When You’re Done Doing That There What You’re Doing

What are you doing? Eating and drinking? Winterizing your windows? Yelling at your spouse? Considering it? Complaining about the True Grit remake? Making love? Considering it?

Boring. Seriously, all that stuff: boring.

Stop all that. It’s not helping, you know? It’s December 23rd today, and as you get ready to begin thinking about your Christmas shopping keep in mind you should always buy yourself a motivating treat as you venture out into the melee. The 12th annual Oxford American music issue is now out on fine newsstands and that really should be enough to get you going. I look forward to this mag. every year. More so now with so many of our music mags being dead and gone.

Pick it up, turn to page 18, and read Jack Pendarvis’ piece “Weird Sincerity,” and try and tell me you were doing something better than that. The kids homework will be there tomorrow. So too, the dishes. World peace? Probably just a pipe dream, but hey, it’s Christmas, keep dreaming.
